Sports Award Luncheon 2015

September 25, 2015 12.30pm

Hosted by Lord Ivar Mountbatten, the Chairman of Regain. The Regain Sports Awards Luncheon celebrates the work of Regain and showcases the charity’s work in helping tetraplegics return to independence after a sporting accident.

Regain is delighted, as always, to offer complimentary tickets to tetraplegics and their carers so that they can enjoy this special day and meet with others in a similar position to themselves.

Because of this, part of the cost of your ticket will assist the charity in making it possible to provide these complimentary tickets to the tetraplegics.

This year our Lunch is to be held the fabulous Allianz Park, home of The Saracens Rugby Team.   We have arranged a great day with the opportunity to tour the ground and Club memorabilia prior to a champagne reception followed by three-course meal, and then, for those that would like, to stay on to watch the scheduled Rugby World Cup match on the big screens – we will have the bar open and the famous Saracens pies available for purchase.

All tickets for the luncheon are priced at £120 each. Your ticket will include a champagne reception, three-course lunch with wine and coffee and petit fours. You are welcome to purchase an individual ticket or invite guests to fill a table of ten (priced at a discounted £1,100).

If you want to sponsor the event or an award speak to tony@regainsportscharity.com

Please complete the booking form for tickets, which we ask you to complete and return to Action for Charity by Friday 21st August. Please note that your ticket(s) will be posted to you

Sports Award Luncheon 2015

Regain was delighted to welcome 150 guests, including 37 tetraplegic individuals to our 2014 Sports Award Luncheon at Kempton Park Racecourse, situated on the outskirts of south west London on Thursday 25th September.

Following the success of the 2013 Sports Award Luncheon at Lord’s Cricket Ground, our aim was to continue having the Sports Award at a famous sporting venue and we were thrilled to confirm Kempton Park Racecourse for both the Luncheon and evening entertainment which included free entry to the horse racing.

The Luncheon began with a drinks reception held in the spectacular Panoramic Bar overlooking the entire racecourse and provided such a great vista and brilliant location to start the day. This gave the perfect opportunity for friends, fundraisers, supporters and VIP’s to reacquaint themselves with each other and share many stories from the last 12 months.

We were also delighted to welcome Access All Rooms, Cyclone Technologies and Team Solent Sharks Wheelchair Rugby who were present with trade stands.

Following the drinks reception guests made the short walk to a private function room for the Luncheon and the Regain Sports Awards.

Regain Chairman, Lord Ivar Mountbatten delivered a warm welcome speech to all the guests prior to the 3 course meal and coffee which was served afterwards. Guests enjoyed a pate starter followed by lamb confit for main and sticky toffee pudding for dessert.

Special thanks must go to the Kempton Park Racecourse catering staff that delivered the 150 meals professionally and without any fuss and ensured everybody’s needs were catered for throughout the entire day.

Regain Sports Awards

Every year Regain takes great pride in presenting our annual Sports Awards trophies to individuals we believe deserve the recognition they merit. As a charity we are humbled by the support you all show to Regain, year on year. However, we always like to ensure that a select few whose lives are forever changed by tetraplegia and the individuals who go out of their way to fundraise for Regain, achieve the ‘unachievable’ and give up so much time are recognised. Congratulations to all the winners of the 2014 Awards.

The Raffle and Auction soon followed. Thank you to all those who took part – your generosity helped to raise a combined £3,800 which is a brilliant figure. We hope the winners enjoy their prizes. Special mention must go to the following individuals and organisations that donated the prizes to our Raffle and Auction this year;

Paul Didben, Paul Sculthorpe MBE, Ann Frampton, Harlequins Rugby Union Football Club, St Helens Rugby League Football Club, Newbury Racecourse, Aintree Racecourse, Kempton Park Racecourse, Cheltenham Racecourse, Ayr Racecourse, Arsenal Football Club, Leicester City Football Club, Middlesbrough Football Club, England and Wales Cricket Board and Hari’s Salon.

Then it was the turn for Regain Patron and BBC commentating legend Barry Davies MBE to do something which has never been and probably will never happen again at a Regain Sports Award Luncheon. In August Barry Davies got nominated to do the Ice Bucket Challenge and chose Regain as his charity; in turn nominating Regain Chief Executive, Gwynne Furlong.

A bucket was sent around the room to raise more valuable funds. The more money in the bucket, the more ice in the bucket!

Your support raised an additional £500 – there was a lot of ice in the bucket! Then it was time. Barry Davies MBE took the honour of throwing the ice bucket; so on the balcony, with 150 guests cheering him on, Regain Chief Executive Gwynne Furlong was well and truly Ice Bucket Challenged!

The evening of horse racing at Kempton Park began at twilight and it was fantastic to see so many Regain guests stay for the evening’s entertainment. We hope that you all had at least one winner and didn’t lose too much money on the night.

Thank you to everyone that attended the 2014 Regain Sports Award Luncheon and congratulations to the Sports Award winners. We hope you all had a memorable day and if it was your first Regain Luncheon then we look forward to seeing you again next year.

We would welcome any feedback from the day. Please contact Ann Frampton: ann@actionforcharity.co.uk or maybe share your Tweets by tweeting @regainsports on Twitter.
