When I first became involved
with the Trust I was amazed to discover the huge additional financial burden that our
environment imposes on people who have become tetraplegic after a leisure or sporting
accident. Transport, wheelchairs, housing, access and computers are all very expensive to
buy or adapt.
Research indicates that our members currently need some £500,000 simply to provide the
basic quality of life that many of us take for granted. We currently have over 200
tetraplegics on our list, with one new injury being made known to us each week, many of
whom have become injured whilst still under the age of 25.
Notwithstanding the enormity of this task, I decided to become involved because there is
no alternative funding available. Regain is the only Trust which solely supports sport
tetraplegics. As chairman it is one of my lobs to secure the financial support needed. I
hope that you will make a similar commitment by investing in the future of Britain's many
leisure and sport tetraplegics who deserve a fulfilling and independent life.
